Image Sharing

The majority of Image sharing will be at sub regional level, to support the Patient Pathways and to maximise usage of regional resources. Sharing technologies will be via:

1. DICOM & IEP XDS-i

2. Regional VNA Store

3. VNA-2-VNA Sharing

Multiple trust involvement in the patient's treatment and tertiary referrals for specialist diagnosis will enable the NHS to provide access to the best available resources within a region.

InStore VNAs can communicate to one another; this allows us to provide automated image sharing between Trusts. Each Trust decides what information to share which can be anything from a worklist folder, driven automatically e.g. all Cardio, Mammography - to a single study. Our VNA then updates the patient record on all the other InStore VNAs in the region, utilising RIS events to automate the process. The clinician can then view images either directly on the VNA or automatically send to local PACS.
